My Autobiography
Hospitality Revenue Management
My name is Efe Ohiosimuan, and I am a hospitality management student at Western Community College (WCC) in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. I was born and raised in Edo State, Nigeria. My educational background, professional experience, and passion for customer service have shaped my interest in the hospitality industry.
Educational Background
I have a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management, which I obtained from Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria, in 2020. My education provided me with knowledge of employee management, organizational behaviour, communication, and leadership.
I also hold a Scrum Fundamentals Certified credential, which introduced me to the principles of teamwork, organization, and effective project management.
After moving to Canada, I continued my education at Western Community College. I initially enrolled in Academic Preparation before progressing to the Hospitality Management diploma program. I have also completed an Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) certificate. My current studies are helping me develop a deeper understanding of hotel operations, customer service, business management, and the financial aspects of hospitality.
Professional Work Experience
My professional journey began in Nigeria, where I gained several years of experience in administration, human resources, and management.
I worked at Julius Berger Nigeria for seven years in an administrative and human resources-related role. My responsibilities included supporting employee onboarding, coordinating training activities, maintaining confidential records, entering information into SAP, assisting with payroll and benefits matters, and supporting daily administrative operations. This experience helped me develop strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
I also worked as an Assistant Manager at Port Harcourt Pleasure Park in Nigeria. In this position, I gained management experience, including supporting a team of more than 20 employees. I learned the importance of teamwork, staff coordination, guest satisfaction, and maintaining efficient operations in a recreational and hospitality environment.
After moving to Canada, I continued building my professional experience in the hospitality and service industry. I have worked as a Guest Experience Host at Cineplex Entertainment, specifically at The Rec Room Granville in Vancouver. My responsibilities include welcoming guests, assisting with reservations and seating, providing recommendations, responding to guest concerns, supporting events, and helping maintain a positive guest experience.
This role has strengthened my understanding of how service quality, guest satisfaction, and efficient operations contribute to the success of a hospitality business.
In June 2025, I also began working as a respite care provider with Inclusion. This role has helped me develop patience, responsibility, communication skills, and the ability to provide individualized support. Although it is outside traditional hospitality operations, it has further strengthened my commitment to providing quality service and care to others.
My Interest in Hospitality Revenue Management
My decision to study Hospitality Management is connected to my previous work experience and my desire to advance professionally in the hospitality industry.
Through my experience in administration, management, and guest services, I have come to understand that the success of a hospitality business depends on more than providing good customer service. It also requires effective planning, financial management, and the ability to make informed business decisions.
This is why I am particularly interested in Hospitality Revenue Management. I want to understand how hotels and other hospitality businesses manage room rates, forecast demand, control inventory, and maximize revenue while maintaining guest satisfaction.
I believe that my background in human resources, administration, and guest services will be valuable in understanding the relationship between operational efficiency, customer experience, and profitability.
My Future Goals
My short-term goal is to successfully complete my Hospitality Management diploma at Western Community College and gain practical experience in different areas of hotel and hospitality operations.
In the future, I hope to progress into supervisory and management positions within the hospitality industry. I am particularly interested in hotel operations, guest services, and revenue management.
Ultimately, I would like to combine my previous management experience with the knowledge and skills I am gaining in Canada to become a successful hospitality professional.
I believe that continuous learning, dedication, teamwork, and excellent customer service are essential to achieving my goals. My journey so far has taught me that every professional experience provides an opportunity to learn, grow, and prepare for greater responsibilities.
I look forward to applying what I learn in my Hospitality Revenue Management class to my future career and contributing positively to the hospitality industry.
